How to Budget for a Group Trip

Most group trip arguments trace back to one thing: someone assumed a different budget than everyone else, and nobody said so out loud until the bill arrived.

Agree on a per-person ceiling before booking anything

Not a precise figure — a range everyone's comfortable with, covering accommodation, food, and activities. This alone prevents the most common trip conflict: one person wanting the €40 dinner every night while another is quietly panicking about their budget.

Separate the big fixed costs from daily spending

Flights and accommodation are usually booked and split upfront. Daily costs — food, drinks, local transport — are better tracked as you go, since guessing them in advance is where most budgets go wrong.

Leave room for the one thing nobody planned for

A lost item, a missed connection, an emergency taxi — something unplanned costs money on almost every trip. Budgeting a small buffer per person avoids that cost turning into an awkward one-off conversation about who pays.
